Abstract
A. salina was grown aseptic ally to adults in a complex non-living medium. The components of the medium are: sea water, hydrolyzed casein, liver infusion, alkaline hydrolyzed nucleic acid, acid hydrolyzed DNA, yeast extract, sucrose, cholesterol, paramecium factor, glutathione, ascorbic acid, a mixture of B vitamins, serum, and starch particles. In the absence of starch particles, the liquid part of the medium supports growth only to the 3d stage metanauplii. The particles are necessary to increase the swallowing reaction. Horse or beef serum supply heat-stable nutrients. Glutathione, thiamine, and folic acid were found essential even in the presence of casein hydrolysate and serum. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
