Abstract
Statistics are proposed for the intensity fluctuations in the transmission of optical waves through the atmosphere. The predictions of these statistics are compared with those of the conventional log-normal intensity distribution function. It is shown that the proposed statistics are at least as consistent with the experimental data as the log-normal statistics. In addition, the proposed statistics are intuitively plausible and exhibit some new and desirable features. Keywords
