Abstract
The localized vibrations of Al in a Cu host lattice have been observed in a Cu-4% Al crystal by coherent inelastic neutron scattering. Both the local-mode frequency and the dependence of the neutron scattering cross sections are in good agreement with a calculation based on a mass-defect theory.
