Abstract
For many years teachers of mathematics have been criticized for the inability of high school graduates to apply the mathematics which they were supposed to have learned in the elementary and high schools. Critics varied from the shop owner who complained that his help could not add and subtract numbers to the engineering professor who claimed that his students did not have sufficient understanding of basic principles to carry on advanced study in his courses. Keywords
