Spasmodic Torticollis Treated Effectively by Medical Means

Abstract
SPASMODIC torticollis is an extremely unpleasant and severely disabling organic neurologic disease.1 2 3 4 5 6 The patient's head is involuntarily and often painfully rotated and twisted so that he desperately seeks relief. It has frequently been stated that medical treatment of spasmodic torticollis is almost totally ineffective.1 2 3 4 Within the past year each of two cases of spasmodic torticollis has responded to medical therapy. The first patient proved to have hyperthyroidism, and the treatment of the hyperthyroidism produced a dramatic amelioration of the torticollis.
