4-O-Methylolivetoric and Loxodellic Acids: New Depsides from New Species of Brown Parmeliae

Abstract
The new species Parmelia brattii Essl. from New Zealand contains a new depside, 4-O-methylolivetoric acid, as the principal secondary product. A 2nd new species, P. loxodella Essl. from Australia (including Taxmania) and New Zealand, has a complex chemistry with glomelliferic acid, glomellic acid and a new compound, loxodellic acid, as the principal constant constituents. Loxodellic acid is a lower homologue of glomelliferic acid. Chemical structures for the new depsides were determined by hydrolysis and TLC of microextracts.
