Abstract
Experimental pyelonephritis was produced in albino rats by intravenous injection of a strain of enterococcus isolated from a patient with urinary tract infection. Obstruction of one ureter for 30 minutes was effected prior to the injection. Groups of rats were given prednisone, tetracycline, or both drugs intravenous and another served as untreated controls. Pyelonephritis was produced. Tetracycline or tetracycline plus prednisone had a minimal effect on the incidence of positive urine cultures. No changes in blood pressure were noted. Tetracycline-treated rats weighed the most and control animals the least. Keywords
