Abstract
The mechanism of local epinephrine-induced eccrine sweating was examined in five healthy white males using a recently developed method employing methylene blue excretion by the sweat glands as an indicator of eccrine secretory activity. Excretion in eccrine sweat of the intra-dermally introduced methylene blue was observed in all of the subjects with both adrenergic (epinephrine, norepinephrine) and cholinergic (acetylcholine, pilocarpine) stimulation. This observation indicates that local adrenergic eccrine sweating is not due merely to myoepithelial expression of preformed eccrine sweat but results from active secretion of sweat, as do other types of eccrine sweating. Keywords
