Abstract
The historical background and pathogenesis of rabies as now understood are reviewed in an effort to clarify the rationale behind recent revisions of rabies prevention. The most important changes are reviewed in detail with emphasis on: 1. The necessity for rapid evaluation and institution of therapy. 2. The great value of rabies antiserum. 3. The uncertain status of vaccine given after a patient is biten by a rabid animal. Keywords
