Abstract
Tiamulin, 14-deoxy-14 [(2-diethylaminoethyl)-mercaptoacetoxy] mutilin hydrogen fumarate, a semisynthetic derivative of the diterpene antibiotic pleuromutilin, was an aid in the control of avian coccidiosis (produced by E. acervulina and E. tenella) in broiler chickens when administered in the drinking water at 0.025% for the first 7 days of life. Weight gains were maintained at the conclusion of the 28 day test and deaths due to coccidiosis were significantly reduced. Lesion scores were reduced in the birds which received tiamulin in the drinking water at 0.025% for the first 7 days of life. Keywords
