Abstract
A variational method based on the nearest-neighbour Ising model is used to derive an expression for the low-temperature correlation function in the Ising model with long-range ferromagnetic interactions. Also by expanding the correlation function directly, the authors demonstrate that the characteristic power-law behaviour at large distances is irrelevant in the critical region, when above the marginal range of interaction. Keywords
