Abstract
The critical surface tensions γc of the poly(ethyl acrylate) (PEA)/poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoro acetone) [P(VDF-HFA)] blends were evaluated by the contact angle method using dispersion (D) and hydrogen bonding (H) liquids. The contact angles of (D) and (H) liquids on the PEA/P(VDF-HFA) blends were analyzed with the Zisman plot (cos vs. γl ), Young-Dúpre-Good-Girifalco plot (1 +cos vs. 1/γ0.5 I) and log(1+cos ) vs. log(γL) plot, where yI is the liquid surface tension. Using (H) liquids, the γc values estimated by the Zisman plot were lower than those obtained by the other plots. It was presumed that the Zisman plot resulted in essentially a downwardly convex curve. The γc value of PEA/P(VDF-HFA) blends remained unchanged in the range from 10 to 50 (wt %) of P(VDF-HFA) content. Finally, using 1 +cos vs. 1/γ0.5 L and log(1+ Cos ) vs. log(γL) plots, Good-Girifalco interaction paramcter G, work of adhesion WA and intcrfacial tension γSL in PEA/P(VDF-HFA) blends were investigated. Keywords
