Abstract
Climate change has been a very common phenomenon in the history of the Earth. Indeed, climatic stability should be considered the exception. In an analytical approach concerned with climate‐water relations it is essential to distinguish climatic impacts of a more or less periodic character, random impacts and impacts resulting from various human activities. North Africa and the Sahel comprise a natural laboratory where the impact of climatic changes can be studied by analysing significant changes in water resources redistribution alongside cultural and economic developments. Examples tracing the relations between variations in water resources indices and climatic changes are discussed. Keywords
