Abstract
An examination of the seed of Khaya senegalensis A. Juss has given the known compounds khivorin and 7-deacetoxy-7-oxokhivorin, together with 3-deacetylkhivorin and a compound which is probably 7-deacetoxy-3-deacetyl-7-oxokhivorin. Examination of the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of 3-deacetylkhivorin shows that it is a 1α-7α-diacetoxy-3α-hydroxy-compound, thus allowing the complete stereochemistry of khivorin to be determined. Oxidation of 3-deacetylkhivorin has given gedunin, providing another link between gedunin and khivorin. Keywords
