Biotransformation of endo-bicyclo[2.2.1 ]heptan-2-ols and endo-bicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-en-6-ol into the corresponding lactones

Abstract
The secondary alcohols 3, 4 and 10 have been converted into the corresponding lactones using Acinetobacter calcoaceticus NCIMB 9871: the transformations (endo-4)⇒6+11 and 10⇒8+9 can be conducted in vitro using a coupled enzyme system (Thermoanaerobium brockii dehydrogenase and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus monooxygenase) with in situ recycling of NADPH/NADP+.
