Abstract
Men alcoholic inpatients were divided into subgroups based on the results of the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI), the Drinking Behavior Inventory (DBI), the MacAndrew Alcoholism Scale (MAC) and Rohan''s classification system for alcoholics (based on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) obtained during the early stages of treatment in a program which permitted drinking. The relationships between their scores on each of these measures and their drinking behavior during treatment, at 6 mo., 1 and 2 yr after treatment were investigated. Results on the EPI, the DBI and the Rohan classification were not related to drinking during the program or at follow-up. Patients with low scores on the MAC tended to be nondrinkers during treatment; those with high scores tended to be drinkers (P < .05). At 1 yr follow-up, patients who had high MAC scores reported significantly more days of drinking and of intoxication during the past 30 days than did patients with low MAC scores. None of the 4 measures is a reliable predictor of drinking patterns or treatment outcome. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
