Reversible Unilateral Pulmonary Hypoperfusion Secondary to Mucus Plugs

Abstract
Pulmonary arteriolar vasoconstriction and diminished blood flow occurs in response to regional pulmonary hypoxia. Radionuclide perfusion lung scanning may demonstrate the induced ischemia with images that are indistinguishable from those of pulmonary emboli. Our case report of mucus plug bronchial obstruction dramatically illustrates the marked reduction in pulmonary blood flow that may occur with regional hypoxia.
