Plasma Norepinephrine Levels in Patients with Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Abstract
Patients with sleep apnea syndrome often have an increased incidence of cardiac arrhythmias and hypertension.1 These cardiovascular complications may be produced by increased sympathetic activity in response to hypoxemia during apnea. Since plasma and urinary norepinephrine levels are considered to reflect sympathetic activity, recent studies have focused on urinary and plasma norepinephrine levels in sleep apnea syndrome.2 , 3
