Abstract
Formate derived from the 2-position of the indole ring of tryptophan during the process of tryptophan catabolism via formylkynurenine and kynurenine has been shown to be utilized for purine biosynthesis de novo in mouse liver, kidney, and intestine. Hydrocortisone treatment both increases the rate of purine biosynthesis in liver and increases the rate of utilization of tryptophan for this process. Keywords
