Abstract
The band structure and Fermi surface of metallic white tin are successfully calculated, using a local-pseudopotential approximation. A new, simple, and accurate model is found for including the spin-orbit coupling within the framework of a pseudopotential Hamiltonian. The results are compared with experimental data, and good agreement is found throughout. Keywords
