Abstract
Trihexyphenidyl (artane,® 3-[1-piperidyl]-1-phenyl1-cyclohexyl-1-propanol hydrochloride) is a member of a new series of antispasmodic compounds.1After intensive pharmacologic investigation2of its effects and of reactions to the drug in animals, the product was turned over to us for clinical evaluation. Its effects were carefully studied in a series of 117 cases of Parkinson's disease. (Since the preparation of the paper, the drug has been employed by us in some 150 additional cases with favorable results, but the observations were not available in time to be incorporated with the earlier cases.) Embodied in this report are the method of administration and use of trihexyphenidyl, correlated with the results of the therapy and the reactions of the patients.
