Abstract
Photoinitiators based on the acetophenone nucleus, such as dialkoxy and α,α-diphenylacetophenone derivatives, exhibit the usual properties of ketones in their excited states (detected through time-resolved laser spectroscopy), e.g.α-cleavage, electron transfer and monomer quenching. Investigation of the primary processes in homogeneous solution leads to a better understanding of the processes involved during the initiation step of the photopolymerization and to a discussion of the relationship between reactivity and efficiency in model systems. Keywords
