Abstract
This paper outlines one-dimensional spectrum terminology, and suggests a spectrum suitable as a standard for model and ship-prediction work. This spectrum is represented by= 0 elsewhere, in whichω0 = 3.15T-1 + 8.98T-2ω is angular frequency in radians per secS(ω) is energy density appropriate to an angular frequency baseΗ is significant wave height in feetωο is spectrum peak frequency T is average period of the waves. In applications where wind speed is specified in place of Τ the following supporting relations may be used, provided the specified wind speed is more than 15 knots:ωο-1 = 0.03Η + 1.35Η = 0.82W -5.8in which W is wind speed in knots
