Abstract
A study of the ocular toxicity of some antibiotics (ampicillin, gentamicin, cephalotin sodic, tobramycin) and some antifungals (amphotericin B, flucytosin) was reported. A transmission electron microscope and a scanning microscope were used. The most important modifications of the corneal endothelium were observed with amphotericin B, flucytosin and cephalotin sodic. Toxicity was lower with gentamicin and tobramycin. Ampicillin produced few visible changes. This study was done to determine the quantities of antimicrobials that could be injected into the human eye without corneal lesions in the treatment of endophthalmitis (bacterial or fungal). This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
