Abstract
Full-color antiferroelectric liquid crystal (AFLC) displays, using the multidomain switching in AFLCs, with high contrast ratio have been realized. To achieve high contrast ratio, the alignment properties and the optical response caused by the electroclinic effect in antiferroelectric state, which determine the dark state transmittance, were studied. A blend technique and a driving scheme have been proposed to reduce the dark state transmittance. The contrast ratio of the developed displays is more than 30Keywords
