Abstract
Deuteron-nucleus breakup wave functions, obtained in a previous study, are applied to calculate the contribution of breakup to zero range stripping matrix elements for the case of 21.6 MeV deuterons incident on . The results are compared with the method of Johnson and Soper. The two calculations agree quite well, but the Johnson-Soper method slightly overestimates the effect of breakup for the surface partial waves, and it suppresses too much the stripping amplitudes for the interior partial waves.
