Abstract
An equation of state for solid hydrogen is obtained from variational calculations for pressures up to 112 kbar. The Lennard-Jones potential is assumed and a brief investigation of the Buckingham exp-6 potential is also made. It is suggested that for high densities, quantum crystals may become harmonic and that Monte Carlo variational calculations for these high-density regions may not be necessary. Keywords
