Abstract
The paper by Sir Geoffrey Vickers leads off this issue because he identifies very cogently what professions have in common and draws important conclusions about education designed to prepare professionals for their roles. His six "dimensions" constitute a prospectus for education, not only for professionals, but for those whose aspirations require similar attributes. He also does us a service by identifying the "multiprofessional profession," a concept which carries with it another idea with which we are concerned: that there is need to deal responsibly with matters that pertain to emerging as well as to traditional professions. Keywords
