Abstract
Is Accountability a standard that transcends time and culture? Does it retain any meaning for an electronically mediated society? Older norms of fairness, reciprocity and of individual responsibility appeared to be inadequate ethical guides during the Iran/Contra Hearings. This article highlights the testimony of Oliver North in order to challenge the universality of Accountability as a criterion of legitimate conduct. Keywords
