Abstract
Bacterial endophthalmitis was produced by inoculating the vitreous body of normal rabbit eyes with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Eyes treated six hours later with a single intravitreal injection of 125μg to 500μg of gentamicin sulfate, in addition to systemically administered gentamicin, uniformly cleared. Control infected eyes treated with systemically administered gentamicin alone were uniformly destroyed. Minute vacuoles that appeared in the lenses of the treated eyes slowly cleared over a period of five weeks, leaving the eyes optically clear. No damage to the retina was observed in treated eyes. Keywords
