Abstract
The occurrence of psittacosis in the U. S. A. is reviewed. The epidemiological findings of 55 cases (12 in New York and 43 in California) are reported and compared with previous findings of Armstrong. 1 case of human transmission where the disease was contracted while nursing a relative, is reported. 2 other cases probably were due to human transmission, although remote contact with birds could not be excluded. Embargo, quarantine, and import duty for imported birds, registration and supervision of establishments handling imported birds or breeding aviaries, and education are recommended as control measures. A bibliography is given. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
