Abstract
Scarification of freshly harvested redweed (Melochia corchorifolia L.) seed for 15 to 30 s in an electric scarifier equipped with 100- to 120-grit emery cloth resulted in the best germination. Scarified seed germinated best at 35 and 40C. At 10 and 45C there was no germination even after 7 days. Seven days after planting in silt loam soil there was 80 to 90% emergence of redweed from depths of 1 to 5 cm, whereas no emergence was observed from depths of 0, 8, or 10 cm.Keywords
