Abstract
In the most common chemical wave medium, the Belousov–Zaikin–Zhabotinsky reaction, most relevant species are ionic. We show that when an electric field is imposed across nonlinear chemical waves in ionic media the system may support multiple types of waves not present when the applied fields is turned off. It is demonstrated that waves may be stopped (i.e., have zero velocity) or that as the applied field is changed beyond a critical level, waves may change discontinuously in character and even reverse their direction of propagation. The potentiality of the induction of a variety of phenomena due to the presence of applied fields seems great. Keywords
