Abstract
Of the 2 types of sex-inter-grades distinguished by Goldschmidt, gynandromorphs and intersexes, many of the former have been reported in the parasitic wasp, Habrobracon. A recent mutation causing weak [male] intersexuality is now reported and a description is given of the mutant-type. A 3rd type of sex-intergrade is reported,[long dash]mosaic [male][male] showing feminized genitalia. No genetically [female] tissue is present but physiological interaction near the border causes feminization. Genital abnormality, which is highly correlated with [male] mosaicism, is classified as displacement, deficiency, reduplication, and feminization. By correlation of these types with respect to the side of the body affected it is shown that reduplication is developmentally related to feminization. On the basis of these findings a new theory of sex-determination in Hymenoptera is suggested.[long dash]P. W. Whiting. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
