BOECK'S SARCOID: A CASE OF SARCOIDOSIS COMPLICATED BY PULMONARY EMPHYSEMA AND COR PULMONALE

Abstract
A case report of Boeck''s Sarcoid with a 10-yr. follow-up which illustrates that Boeck''s Sarcoid is not a benign lesion, as commonly believed, and that complicating tuberculosis is common and accompanied by the reversal of Tuberculin negativity to positivity. The Sarcoid lesions may apparently disappear or regress but are still present and may impinge on the terminal bronchioles and cause partial obstruction with resulting severe emphysema and accompanying right heart hypertropy and right heart failure. The difference between Sarcoid and tuberculosis may be a matter of host resistance to the tubercle bacillus, Sarcoid being the evidence of greater resistance on the part of the host.
