Abstract
Using the BaSO4 technique an x-ray study was made of the rate of movement of the contents through the different regions of the gastrointestinal tract of the guinea pig. A rapid movement through the stomach and small intestine and a marked retardation in the cecum was observed. Within a period of 2 hrs. most of the Ba had moved into the cecum. After 24 hrs. all of the Ba was eliminated in 16 of 27 animals, traces only were left in 5 animals and small amt. in 6. The significance of the results is discussed in connection with possible failure in the complete absorption of special types of nutrients such as some of the vits. Keywords
