Temperature decay of a laser-produced aluminum plasma

Abstract
The temperature of the plasma produced by Q-spoiled laser irradiation of an aluminum target has been measured by monitoring the emission and absorption through a small cross section of the plasma in the early stages of the flare decay. The temperature obtained in this manner is found to be much less than previous estimates based on the velocities of emitted ions, but is in good agreement with recent measurements on a carbon plasma.Keywords
