Abstract
The perinatal development of plasma cholinesterases and plasma hepatic and renal carboxylesterases was examined quantitatively by spectrophotometric techniques. Between 32 and 63 days of gestation, the plasma, hepatic and renal carboxylesterase activities were extremely low but, within 5 days of birth (66 days gestation), there were no significant differences between infant and adult activities. Plasma cholinesterase developed rapidly after 56 days of gestation, achieving a level comparable to adult activity 3 days after birth. Keywords
