Abstract
The hospital mortality following 108 878 anaesthetics in Cardiff between 1972 and 1977 has been analysed. There was a total of 2391 deaths, giving a crude mortality rate of 2 2 per 100 patients. Data are presented on several important variables that influence mortality These include age, sex, preoperative clinical assessment score, preoperanve condition, site of operation, operation, whether elective or emergency and duration of anaesthesiaKeywords
