Abstract
Gamma-ray distribution and linear polarisation measurements on transitions in 56Fe from the decay of 56Co oriented in an iron host matrix at 6.24(2) mK are reported. The data confirm the spin values 4 (4100.3 keV and 4298.0 keV) and 3 (4120.0 keV and 4395.0 keV) and yield E2/M1 mixing ratios for 19 transitions which are new (for the weaker decays) or generally more precise than existing values. Comments on the theoretical interpretation of the excited states of 56Fe are suggested. Keywords
