Abstract
Violence and aggression towards NHS staff has been a growing problem in the NHS over the past few years and has consequently been the subject of high-profile campaigns such as the Government's zero tolerance to violence policy. However, despite these endeavours, a report from the National Audit Office (NAO) has highlighted that the number of incidences of violence and aggression directed against NHS staff has risen by 13% over the past 2 years and that this figure could be 40% higher as two out of five attacks are not reported (NAO, 2003).
