Abstract
The significance of and the distinction between the lattice Gruneisen parameter and the thermodynamic Gruneisen parameter is discussed. A relationship between these parameters has been examined and analysed for nine polymers and their ratio is utilised to measure the interchain specific heat and specific heat ratio. Calculated data on the Gruneisen parameter, interchain specific heat ratio and interchain isobaric specific heat taken up by the molecular vibrations for these polymers is presented. It is seen that the interchain vibrations contribute from 11 to 30% of the total isochoric specific heat in these polymers.
