Bipartite Atlas

Abstract
A case of combined anterior and posterior ossifications defects of the atlas is presented, and the literature reviewed. Many cases are either asymptomatic or have minimum symptoms. A few are unstable. No peripheral neurological disorder has been found associated with this lesion, but there is a high incidence of seizure disorders. In four patients, a seizure disorder may have led to recognition of the cervical spine defect.
