Extension of the Separation of Types Among the Pneumococci: Description of 17 Types in Addition to Types 1 to 32 (Cooper)

Abstract
Summary: Seventeen new pneumococcus types are described. Nine types are distinct from types 1 to 32; eight show marked cross reactions with other types and are therefore termed subtypes. The incidence, virulence for mice, sources of culture and cross reactions of the new types and subtypes are described. Correlation with results obtained by other workers is given. Recommendations for terminology of 55 different pneumococcal types, including the types and subtypes described in this paper and those described by Kauffmann, Mørch and Schmith, are given.
