Kinetics and mechanism of HgCdTe oxidation by ac impedance

Abstract
The kinetics and mechanism of anodic oxidation of (Hg,Cd)Te in 0.1 N KOH in 90% ethylene glycol/ 10% water were explored by ac impedance. The oxidation rate was found to be independent of KOH concentration in the absence of mass transport effects. The mechanism was found to be of a general ECE (electron transfer, chemical, electron transfer) type, with a switch from mass transport to charge transfer control caused by potential dependent migration of hydroxide ions to the surface of the electrode.
