Abstract
Countercurrent separation of alkaloidal material from Croton linearis Jacq. yielded two new alkaloids. These have been shown to be 8,14-dihydrosalutaridine (I; R1= Me, R2= H) and 8,14-dihydronorsalutaridine (I; R1= R2= H). The B : C ring junction has been assigned the cis-configuration and n.m.r. and mass spectral data of these alkaloids and some derivatives are discussed. Biosynthetic studies showed the incorporation of tritium-labelled coclaurine, norcoclaurine, and isococlaurine into 8,14-dihydronorsalutaridine.Keywords
