Traumatic Hepatic Arteriovenous Fistula Causing Portal Hypertension and Variceal Bleeding

Abstract
Traumatic intrahepatic arteriovenous fistulae are rare. A patient is described in whom the syndrome of remote liver trauma, portal hypertension with variceal bleeding, and normal liver functions was shown arteriographically to be due to a hepatic artery-portal vein fistula. Operative closure was successful.
