Clinical Settings for the Ulcer PatientPatients Not Requiring Definitive Ulcer Surgery Young, male or female, with early, first-episode pain or nonshock-producing bleeding. There is no disagreement on treatment for the young patient in the third or fourth decade of life who has his or her first early episode of ulcer pain. Such symptoms, frequently occurring at a time of emotional stress related to study, job acquisition or real or contemplated matrimony, can be expected to subside with a properly conducted diet and medicines and with at least an attempt to remove known emotional or environmental stimuli.
