Abstract
In response to Burbules's article "Making a Case for Relevance, " this article argues that Burbules confuses matters of relevance with the question of the communication of relevance and that he fails to distinguish between authoritative and authoritarian positions. The article also analyzes the sense in which Burbules's position is positivist and explains the role of philosophy in a liberal theory of educational administration. Keywords
