Abstract
The vegetation of 4 community types on the Altipiano of Monte Maiella is analyzed in terms of growth form, percentage cover of vegetation and growth form as a per-centage of total vegetation. These data are related to the relative exposure of the 4 communities. The parameter Zo , detd. from wind-velocity measurements, is used as a measure of the degree of protection afforded by surface irregularities. It shows that there exists a relationship between growth form, average plant height, average inflorescence height and the parameter Zo. The causative factors bringing about this relationship are discussed together with 3 types of selection which would appear to be operative in these communities.
